There was celebration at the Lagos State Polytechnic , Ikorodu on Tuesday when the new rector , Dr Nurudeen Olaleye , was inaugurated officially.
While some of the members of staff adorn the same attire, others were seen chanting victory songs and dancing. Some were also seen greeting and congratulating each other over the emergence of Olaleye as the rector.
The inauguration witnessed a large turnout of management staff and other workers of the institutions.
The Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on November 23 appointed Olaleye as the new Rector of the polytechnic at the expiration of the tenure of the Acting Rector , Mr Olumide Metilelu .
Olaleye ’ s appointment is for five years single term and takes effect from December 1, 2020.
While the inauguration was on going, the Governing Council called on staff and students to cooperate and support Olaleye in order to improve and promote the institution . The Chairman of the council , Prof. Abudur – Rasheed Ojikutu , was quoted that in the past few years, the polytechnic had “ deviated markedly from its set goals of promotion, scholarship and leadership in technology ”.
The traditional rulers within Ikorodu and Isale – Eko axis believe dearly to the perception that LASPOTECH is a trouble spot and centre of confusion . This unfortunate badge is unacceptable on the chest of the foremost tertiary institution of Lagos State.
We all as staff and students must make concerted efforts to appropriately alter the brand to a more positive one, said the council chairman. Metilelu called on all members of staff to regain and reposition the cordiality among themselves . He said that cordiality among LASPOTECH staff and students was very important to achieve peace and progress.
NAN quoted Metilu while saying , “ The polytechnic can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace , and that only motivated workforce can contribute meaningfully toward the development of the polytechnic. On Monday the National Board for Technical Education approved audit inspection of the commencement of open distance flexible and e-learning in the institution.
